Yes, outdoorsmen have been using similar fuel for years. Even the military has used this type of fuel in emergency kits to provide a cooking source and heat source in a pinch. So yes, make some smores. And you wont taste anything weird!
What about under the fireplace?
does the fireplace get hot?
Each of our TableHearths sit on a carbon fiber welding cloth that protects the surface it sits on. After an hour of burn time, the surface under the fireplace will barely be warm enough to notice a difference.

Indoor burning?
Because the fuel source is isopropyl alcohol, you can burn it indoors and cook over it. Please make sure the room has good ventilation.
Any fire, if left to burn in a small space long enough (even a cigarette lighter, for example) will eventually cause problems. That is because flame requires oxygen to burn. And if there is fuel and no oxygen, harmful fumes can begin to form. Our benchmark for a safe space is 400+ sq feet and good air conditioning.
While the Fjellmark Fireplace will heat up a room by several degrees, this product is not meant to be used like a heater. Please make sure to stay with your fire while it is burning at all times.
Cooking
Yes, you can! Just make sure you clean your firepit afterwords of any crumbs or other material that fell into the fire. This can produce smoke that can trigger fire alarms etc.
Taking care of your firepit
We reccomend you clean your firepit after each use by wiping it down with a wet rag. This will remove any residue where the flame touched and prepare it for its next use. Let it cool down first!
No. If you put cold water on something hot, especially concrete, it will crack under pressure. Please let the firepit cool naturally.

This is a well made fire pit that is nice and heavy so you don't have to worry about it accidentally tipping over. It has a good size reservoir for the rubbing alcohol so the flame will burn for several hours before needing to be refilled.
Used 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and it lit beautifully and is burning great! So mesmerizing to watch and actually puts off a fair bit of heat. No visible smoke/odor, though the interior did turn blackish.
Having this has been fun. I was a bit skeptical about how well it would work with just using basic rubbing alcohol, but its awesome. Then I was cautiously optimistic about how well it would work (safely) indoors on my kitchen island and it worked well there too. I was worried that it might put off something that would trip a smoke detector but nope. No problem. The only thing that was in danger of setting off the smoke detector was if we weren't careful and burned a marshmallow.One other thing that was a pleasant surprise was that using the alcohol for fuel it didn't effect the taste of anything.I find that I use it on my patio for ambiance and in the kitchen for goodies.I like the nice wooden lid/snuffer to put it out when done using and it works like a charm.Overall there is only upside to owning this and I definitely recommend.
THIS IS A NICE LITTLE FIREPIT FOR MY TABLE ON THE BACK PORCH. FOR AS HEAVY AND PRICY AS IT IS, I WISH IT WAS JUST A TAD BIGGER. IT IS EXTREMELY STURDY, VERY CLASSY AND CLEAN EDGED. VERY WELL MADE AND WOULD DO WELL WITH PRETTY MUCH ANY DECOR. AGAIN, I WISH IT WAS A LITTLE LESS ON THE COST, BUT IT'S A GOOD LITTLE TABLE FIREPIT.
